Dwelling in the shadows of Melbourne, Pagan have spent their young but exuberant existence building a cult attraction to their wild, ritualistic performances and bittersweet death rock and roll. Whether a slot on renowned festivals like UNIFY, Yours & Owls or BIGSOUND, or national tours playing stadiums with Rise Against, or sweaty club shows with King Parrot and Frenzal Rhomb, Pagan have made a name for themselves with their blistering live show, making an impact on each stage they play.
Together, Nikki Brumen (vocals), Xavier Santilli (guitar), Dan Bonnici (bass) and Matt Marasco (drums) play like their lives depend on it, paying homage to their punk rock and heavy music ethics. They draw inspiration from the dancefloors of neon-soaked discotheques and back-alley rock and roll clubs of old, rebelling against the rules and nostalgic romanticism that seem to plague underground music to this day.
Pagan signed with EVP Recordings (Australia) and Hassle Records (UK) to deliver their debut album Black Wash, brought to life by producer Mike Deslandes. The collection of 11 songs features the blistering lead single, ‘Death Before Disco’, pop soundtrack, ‘Silver’ and favourites ‘Imitate Me’ and ‘Wine and Lace’.
Embracing their Italian roots in an almost sarcastic fashion until it’s pretty much become serious, Pagan have charmed audiences with their unique candour and straight-up saucy attitude. They play with such an unstoppable ferocity that they sound not only like a band on a mission, but like a band at full-blown war.
