UNIFY Gathering is committed to minimising the festival’s impact on the environment.  We understand that we have a responsibility to take care and advocate for our festival home. UNIFY will continue to build on existing, green practices and will work both jointly and independently to achieve this.

UNIFY is committed to:

Influence and educate: We aim to educate the UNIFY Community on unnecessary environmental impact. Though transparent messaging, we aim to tackle waste, reduce festival emissions and increasing recycling rates.

Lead by example: UNIFY festival will practice what we preach. We will learn, lead and collaborate to improve our festival green practices. It doesn’t stop there, we will also make sure contractors, companies and stallholders share our ethos.

Reducing festival emissions: UNIFY festival will focus on improving our ‘green’ factor by reducing emissions. These focus areas fall into three broad categories:

  • Powering the festival;
  • Festival related travel;
  • Waste and recycling.

Land & Waste Volumes: Minimising volume of waste to landfill is a priority. We encourage everyone traveling to UNIFY to only bring what’s needed and leave the rest behind. We regulate what contractors, particularly vendors can bring onsite. The festival will also have smart and easy to use waste systems in place.

Recycling & Composting:  We aim to ensure most of the items onsite are recyclable or bio-degradable. We develop waste management plans with our waste contractors with increased recycling targets. Supporting and promoting charities and organisations that encourage reuse of materials. We will make it easy to recycle and compost on-the-go.

Monitoring & Review: UNIFY Festival organisers will monitor compliance with the aims of this policy and quantify the success of the implementation of this policy.  Post event, organisers will carry out a festival assessment of vehicle emissions, landfill volumes, recycling %’s, water use, emissions.

This policy is part of our UNIFY Gathering Festival strategic plan and is incorporated into our UNIFY Gathering Event Management Plan. As festival organisers, we share the responsibility to take every measure possible to reduce the amount of unnecessary environmental impact.
